Using Twine: The Alchemy of Interactive Fiction (Age 12+)

Learn the basics of video game writing through interactive fiction! Using Twine – a free program you can continue to use at home – learn the basics of storytelling for interactive media and practice writing a branching narrative where players can make choices. Run by Rick Stemm, Narrative Director at PikPok, this workshop will focus on hands-on practice, with students writing their own interactive fiction, interspersed with writing tips and Q&A with the instructor. No experience necessary.

Your Tutor
Rick Stemm helped originate the Design Manager role at PikPok, New Zealand’s largest and oldest game developer, and founded and grew their Narrative team. A prolific speaker, Rick has presented at PAX, GenCon, NZGDC, artistic workshops, game dev meetups, and most NZ universities. Rick was a keynote speaker at FINS, New Zealand’s first games narrative conference. Rick is also a passionate member of the community, mentoring, networking, and otherwise connecting wherever he can.
